SISJ BEAUTY: BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER >
BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER when it comes to beauty products. By this I mean the ‘big’ commercial brands we’ve all seen and heard about for decades, and then the ‘little guys’. Today’s blog post is about just that, the ‘little guys’ – the ones you may have heard less about, but are equally successful in their own right. I have always said and will continue to say, I am brand-loyal with certain beauty products (particularly foundation, concealer & brows), but I am a super-brand-switcher when it comes to almost everything else! I recently had a big make-up buy-up and here are some of my goodies + some background info JFYI. Pucker-up, ladies!
Charlotte Tilbury – with 20 plus years as a makeup artist, Charlotte Tilbury knows what works and has painted some of the most beautiful faces in the world. It seemed only natural that she launch her own make-up and skin care line, which she debuted in 2013. I remember first hearing about her from the Grazia magazine beauty team (who were obsessed), where I interned for in 2012. Since they I have been a loyal follower and now customer! My purchases pictured above include: Super Model Body – Slimmer Shimmer, Eyes to Mesmerise Jean (this stuff is beyond wow!), Amazing Grace Lipstick and Blondie Lip-gloss
Kevyn Aucoin – Kevyn Aucoin was an American make-up artist, photographer and author. He unfortunately died at the age of 40 in 2002 from a rare pituitary tumor. Prior to his death in 2001 he launched Kevyn Aucoin Beauty – having previously worked with Japanese cosmetics giant Shiseido on their Inoui collection. His range is now available on Net-a-Porter, at Sephora, Mecca Cosmetica and Nordstrom in the US. I recently purchased The Neo Bronzer in Siena (photographed above) and absolutely love it! The coral tones suit my complexion better than say a bright or deep pink. While there are no rules about what does and doesn’t work for certain skin tones, hair colour and eye colour, you will just know what works for you. As I choose to wear tan most of the time, I like a deep bronze/coral colour. However, I think a lighter more pearly pink suits a blonde hair and pale skin (Naomi Watts comes to mind). For red heads I would also suggest a deep brown/red and brunettes can absolutely rock all shades of pink in my opinion! I bought The Expert Mascara and i’ve never seen a brush design like it – it’s incredible. Great height and volume, without any cluggy grouping of lashes
Chantecaille – I’ve only recenelty discovered Chantecaille (their lipsticks in particular) and FELL IN LOVE! Chantecaille is a luxury brand for skincare and beautifying cosmetics, known for its uniquely high concentration of natural botanicals. None of the Chantecaille products are tested on animals and all skincare products are free of synthetic colours and fragrances, and do not contain any sulfate detergents, phthalates, nor petrochemicals. If you want to have a close look at the colours, head into Mecca Cosmetica. These are creamy and nourishing, however, they are not super long-wearing and i’ve also found they bleed a little
Beauty Blender – these egg shaped sponges are amazing and assist with achieving that flawless finish. They are latex-free, hypoallergenic and odour-free. I always use a buffer brush to perfect my foundation when applying a heavier face (not technically what you ‘should’ do, but it works for me!), and these have a very similar effect. They are great for getting into little creases (nose, eyes, mouth)
Oribe – this is luxe haircare gone cray-cray (in a good way!). This range was created by editorial and celebrity hairdresser, Oribe Canales. The range contains: shampoos, conditioners, sprays, mists, oils, gels, creams and my fave, texturising sprays. Oribe’s signature scent also runs throughout the entire line and the packaging just a tad F-off (pardon my French, but it is). These are available on Net-a-Porter, so go and spoil yourself or add it to the Christmas list!
OTHER FAVES: Armani – Si (eau de parfum) / Wella Luxe Oil / Valentino Donna perfume
