FASHION – UNLACED: BY COLLETTE DINNIGAN

SISJ FASHION & LIFESTYLE – UNLACED: BY COLLETTE DINNIGAN >

You really couldn’t script a more superb grouping of talent, design and creativity than Collette Dinnigan’s Unlaced exhibition at Sydney’s exclusive Powerhouse Museum. Dinnigan’s distinctive craftsmanship of lace, embellished and romantic designs are truly unique. Over the years I have collected many of her ready-to-wear pieces, and more recently, even bought a few little dresses for Mia Grace.

In 2013 Dinnigan announced her retirement from Paris Fashion Week, a decision that came as quite a shock to many. She also declared she would be focusing her time on licensing, special projects and downsizing her retail and wholesale operations. She also stated she wanted to spend more quality time with her family. As a working mamma myself, it’s a hard juggle at the best of times. I was also lucky enough to interview Dinnigan last year, where we spoke about all-things motherhood and about her recent collaboration with The Australian Ballet, another art-form close to my heart. Today on the blog I am sharing my excitement for Unlaced and some beautiful images of her latest project.

This spring the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum presents Unlaced. This event is exclusive to MASS and has been curated with Dinnigan herself. The exhibition covers her 25 year career in the industry and features over 100 garments and some incredible installations. The exhibition showcases over 100 garments including her signature lingerie, bridal wear, ready-to-wear, resort collections and some never-before-seen pieces and accessories from her personal archive. In addition to this wide array of pieces, the dramatic catwalk presentation also provides a small insight into Dinnigan’s creative process, through a series of striking mood boards and installations.

MAAS and Dinnigan have collaborated with award-winning stage, costume designer and installation artist, Anna Tregloan. As a team they have styled and designed the exhibition, embracing all of Dinnigan’s trademark aesthetics. You will be taken on a journey of her inspirations, which includes: film, music, photography, history, vintage ceramics, jewellery and fabrics. The exhibition also encapsulates her love (and mine!) of materials including tulle, chiffon and lace, as well as her love of the female form and every woman’s own sense of sensuality and confidence.

Ladies, this exhibition is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. How poetic that her stellar career has come full-circle back to Sydney, where she opened her first retail boutique in Paddington. You have got until August of next year to view this incredible collaboration, so ensure you visit before it’s gone forever.
