SISJ BEAUTY: BEACH-EE & GRUNGE-EE WAVES HAIR HOW-TO >

{CONFESSION }… It’s important that I declare I am not a trained professional in the hair and make-up department. However, it is also important that I declare I have a somewhat (sick) obsession with all things hair and make-up – so in my mind I’m basically THE QUEEN of beauty advice and hair-how-to’s, DUH. Now that we’ve cleared all that up, I will proceed to blow your beauty brains with my pearls of wisdom on achieving gritty, grunge-ee, beach-ee waves.

It’s a well known fact I can drag out a blowave for a good five to seven days, with a little help along the way of course. This includes my fave dry shampoo, a flexi hair spray that brushes out and a good hairbrush. Below I have listed some amazing products that I like to use when prepping my hair for a grunge/beach/boho wave. Remember: gritty/dirty hair always styles and holds better, but if you want to style freshly washed hair, I would definitely suggest using any of the below products to maximise the wave and hold. TODAY IS ALL ABOUT THE PERFECT PREPPING PRODUCTS PEEPS!

PERFECT PRODUCTS FOR PREP:

Kevin Murphy – Powder Puff > this stuff is faaaaareakin’ amazing and will allow you to achieve some sexy grunge waves. The only negative about this product is that after about two days you will need to give it a really good wash as it’s itchy AF, ha! It’s probably the best for styling this type of wave/curl, but really only designed for that day/event – not 647 days like I would prefer it for!

Batiste – Blush Dry Shampoo > I LOVE THIS STUFF and it’s available at the supermarket too, winning on all fronts. Yes, this is what I use to drag out my blowaves (particularly around my hair line due to sweat/make-up/life), but it also doubles as a great prep/styling product for grunge style waves/curls. This is probably not the product for you if you like shine though, as it soaks up all the oil and glitz! Which I personally prefer as I like the gritty/messy look.

EVO – Haze Styling Powder > this is similar to the KM Powder Puff, but not as intense/heavy. It leaves a matt finish and it’s flexi to build waves or curls on top of. A good mid-week option to last.

Kevin Murphy – Body Builder > I’ve always applied this mousse to damp hair and dried it in. It builds volume and gives you a flexi hold – so styling over it once dry with a curling wand is perfect for a grunge-ee/beach-ee wave. It’s also very lightweight and I can get a solid four days out of it without having to apply any additional volumising products. In my opinion, you still need an additional flexi hair spray when using the BB.

Sebastian- Re-Shaper Hair Spray > I LOVE THIS SPRAY MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF SOMETIMES, it’s that bloody good. I was introduced to it about seven years ago and I refuse to use anything else. It smells soooo good and I truly believe the secret ingredient that makes it so good is MAGIC. Seriously. It holds like heck, but brushes out before bed. You can all thank me now for changing your hair life!

EVO – Builders Paradise Working Spray > this is also another great product to use AS you are styling and AFTER. It’s lightweight, flexible, but holds for when you need it. Work it in as you go and to finish. With the right brush, it can be brushed out before bed.

JFYI KERRY’S FAVE PREP RODUCT: Kez is my MUA and also does hair (and does it sah-gooood). On our shoot featured above she used the new XXL Volume Dry Shampoo by Batiste to prep, before she used a medium curling wand by Babyliss to achieve the grunge-look waves
