SISJ NEWBORN & BABY: TINY HEARTS PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID COURSE >
Being married to medicine, first aid is something very close to my heart. There was a never a moment where I didn’t consider doing a first aid course, in preparation for Baby Young’s arrival. While sometimes unfortunate things do and can happen, it’s all about equipping yourself with the skills and knowledge to handle just about any situation. I am of the mindset where I want to be as prepared as I possibly can be. I wanted the best of the best, hence why I teamed-up with Tiny Hearts.
Last week I had some of my gorgeous girlfriends over to my home, where we met with Rachel for our Tiny Hearts Paediatric First Aid Course. Not only did we all take away vital knowledge and the skills to deal with the most common medical emergencies that can be faced by our babies, we also walked away with a nationally recognised certificate in CPR. Tiny Hearts operates out of Melbourne and Sydney, and are launching in Perth and Brisbane later this year. Public courses are available, as well as private classes at home. I cannot recommend this course highly enough – it could save your baby’s life one day.

WHAT WE LEARNT:
Our Tiny Hearts course went for 3.5 hours and we soaked it all up liked good year 9 students, ha-ha! It was great that my girlfriends could bring their little ones and bumps as well – making it all the more real. We covered infant CPR / choking / drowning / infant asthma / allergies & anaphylaxis / burns / fevers & seizures / Panadol Vs Nurofen / poisoning / SIDS & safe sleeping. At the end of the course we had 20 minutes of question time. I found this particularly useful and loved that we had a small and intimate group. It was great to have some personal question time with Rachel and being in such a supportive environment/space.
I am thrilled to welcome Rachel and Nikki as guest contributors to SISJ too. We will be covering topics such as SIDS safety and basic first aid. Watch this space…
