SISJ LIFESTYLE – MY INTERIOR DESIGN INSPIRATION FOR OUR HOME >
Today on the blog I am sharing some of my favourite #housespo images I’ve drawn from, while styling our new home. I would probably label my style as ‘modern French provincial’, with a Moroccan-esque edge! I am totally making that up, but that’s ok. I think when it comes to your ‘forever home, it’s important to really plan out each room and not just race to finish it because you’re impatient (like I normally do!). I want to grow with our new home, adding memories along the way. I’ve had several requests to publish some pics of our home, but I’m not quite finished yet – so stay tuned! Below are some of the things we’ve done, my fave furniture brands/stores in Melbourne and other home styling and decorating recommendations.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR: We moved into our new home (about 5yrs old) a few months ago and while we loved it, we wanted to make it OURS. At this point it is our forever home (unless I pull a Bec Judd and get pregnant with twins next time!), so we wanted to love every square cm – from the floors to the ceilings. On that note – we didn’t love the floors (yellow/red solid timber boards), so we stained them a matte black. They are super sexy, but VERY high maintenance (especially with two dogs and a toddler!). We also decided to paint the skirting boards a black gloss, even though we had never seen this done before. We LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! The gloss skirting adds (we think!) another level of sophistication and elegance, to what was some pretty boring antique white walls (P.S I am even considering panelling all the walls… Haven’t run that past the hubby yet though!). We also retiled our pool (it was the most horrid blue colour I had ever seen – plus a pretty shitty job to be honest). We went black and I designed the tile pattern to look a little ‘old school’ (pics coming soon). We are currently seeking advice (from real professionals!) to beef-up the hedges behind the pool, as they are randomly placed at the moment. I love the look of a solid green lush wall – not bits of fence. Boston Ivy can be great, but then I hate when it loses all its leaves! Our hedges are Lilly Pillys (not the red one), which looks fab all year round. To add a rustic provincial touch to our outdoor area, I would love a vibrant pink Bougainvillea, however, these drop sharp nasties on the ground which are not kiddie-friendly. Hopefully we can get some advice and find a soft pink or bright pink rose that can creep up the pillars of the outdoor area. Hmmm, what else? We also built a butler’s pantry, primarily to hide the fridge – as the previous owners had this facing the kitchen. We have a few other plans in-play, but all will be revealed soon! While minor or big renovations cost money, style does not. I have cheapie pieces and expensive pieces, it’s all how you work it together to tell YOUR story – much like fashion.
