SISJ LIFESTYLE: MY MELBOURNE GO-TO FLORIST: MARY MARY STUDIO >
“The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind, but the goodness of a person spreads in all directions” – CHANAKYA.
There isn’t a more fitting quote to describe the lovely and very talented Kate McLean from Mary Mary Studio. I was lucky enough to connect with Kate a few months ago and work with her on Baby Young’s shower in February. From my initial contact with Kate, I was blown away by her creativity, professionalism and warmth. Kate’s exquisite work speaks for itself. It’s delicate, unpretentious and unique. I felt so confident letting Kate and the team (The Three Piece Suit, Lauren Skorsis Design, Atlantic Group) lead the way, with my vision in-tow. The work that Kate produced on the day was impeccable and I cannot recommend her services highly enough.
ALL ABOUT KATE:
Kate is a one-time advertising copywriter turned florist, and the brains (read: hands, feet, eyes, nose, elbows, knees and everything else) behind Mary Mary. After completing a Bachelor of Communication in Advertising at RMIT and working as a writer for some of Melbourne’s leading advertising agencies, Kate left the corporate world to pursue her passion for flowers. She began Mary Mary as a Facebook page dedicated to showcasing her bespoke fresh floral headpieces, but it quickly grew into a full service floral styling business, with her very own shop opening on Nicholson Street in Coburg next week. In that time, Kate has also been named Darebin City Council’s Young Business Achiever of the year, and shortlisted as a finalist in the Victorian Young Achiever Awards for 2015.
ABOUT MARY MARY STUDIO:
Mary Mary Studio loves creating statement blooms and naturally styled flowers for anything and everything you can think of, be it weddings, events, or a lovely gift for someone special. Mary Mary works hand in hand with brides-to-be (usually over tea, cupcakes and plenty of Pinterest pinning) to find that special something that makes your wedding day blooms a thoughtful and beautiful reflection of you and your partner. Their style is loose, natural and unstructured, and they love playing with colour and texture, especially when it means creating blooms that are bright and bold and full of personality – and just that little bit different. Mary Mary also thinks the best way to work is together, so they like to spend a bit of time getting to know you. (They’ve found when it comes to creating one’s dream flowers, it helps to know what one’s dreams are).
SERVICES: Weddings, baby showers, engagement parties, personal deliveries/gifts, corporate events, anything and everything!
MARY MARY STUDIO’S VISION FOR BABY YOUNG’S SHOWER:
To compliment the beautiful space at Mill & Bakery and bring SJ’s vision of ‘rustic elegance’ to life, I wanted the blooms to be really soft and gorgeous, tumbling loosely from vintage copper vessels and vases. We went for a blush pink, peach, silver and green colour palette to create something unique and textural that was still fit for the celebration of a little princess, using a combination of the most divine scented david austin roses, brunia, hanging amaranthus, olive foliage, trachelium and hydrangea. The Three Piece Suit provided the most perfect vintage tea tins and hessian details to compliment the soft, natural look and tie everything together.
