At last, the best season of all (in my opinion!) is soon to be upon us once again and that can only mean one thing – it’s time to update your wardrobe! Autumn/Winter is by far my favourite time of year. The weather is cooler, the clothes are trendier and the nights are snugglier – what’s not to love!? With Jennifer Hawkins shooting the Myer A/W15 Campaign at the end of last year and with their spectacular runway show about to stop us in our tracks, I thought it would be the perfect time to give you a rundown on what you can expect to be filling your wardrobe with as we enter the cooler months.

MONOCHROME – Just like it has been this summer, winter will be all about keeping it simple with the basic blacks, whites and greys. Neutral tones will continue their domination in our wardrobes for a little while longer and I am definitely not complaining. Classic pieces like these are great because they can take you from season to season and you can use your favourites pieces from summer to layer it up this winter – you savvy shopper, you!

PASTELS – I am so excited that pastels will continue to feature throughout the cooler months. I don’t tend to wear big bold colours and prints, so pastels are the perfect way to add a pop of colour into your favourite outfit and still feel like you. Pastel tones are feminine and sexy, but yet add a leather jacket or a pair of leather tights and you’ve instantly got an edgier outfit with a twist.

MID-LENGTH & PLEATED SKIRTS – I know how we all love to throw on our favourite pair of boyfriend jeans (trust me, I am the first in line!) but this winter it will be all about embracing the midi skirt. Pleated long flowy skirts, fitted knit tube skirts and of course my personal favourite, the leather pencil skirt will be a great way to dress up for a night out on the town when the weather starts to cool down. In my opinion, these skirts are much more flattering than a too-tight mini skirt, it’s all about effortless glamour.

CARDIGANS AND KNITS – This season it’s all about comfort (all hail the fashion gods!) and of course effortless style. Long line cardigans, wraps and slouch knits are expected to be season faves with plain and printed versions available. These are perfect for those rainy days where you want to be comfortable, yet still want to look good on your sneaky ice-cream run (whoops!). Who doesn’t love the idea of just being able to throw on an oversized knit and still look effortlessly glam? In the words of Beyonce, #iwokeuplikethis.

ANIMAL PRINTS – Word on the grapevine is that the animal print is making a comeback. Sure, we all love a little leopard print injection into our wardrobes every now and then, but the animal print is set to hit like never before. Get ready to don tiger prints and cheetah spots for that night on the town. Release your inner Girl Boss and strut your stuff ladies!

COATS (POD, PEA, WRAP-AROUND, TRENCH) – Last but certainly not least, the winter coat. By far my favourite winter item, the coat can take your outfit from drab to fab in a matter of seconds. Whether you’re having a bad day, a fat day, a bad hair day or even the most fabulous day, the coat can instantly make you look and feel a million dollars! I will always choose to invest in a great statement coat and be a smart shopper when it comes to my basics. A good coat will last years and you really can’t go wrong with a classic black or grey. Mind you though, I hear that gorgeous oversized pastel pod coats are the “it” item for winter, so be sure to keep your eye out!
