WOMEN WHO INSPIRE: MY EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH COLLETTE DINNIGAN >
I am very pleased to welcome the very amazing and talented, Collette Dinnigan, to the SISJ BLOG for my WOMEN WHO INSPIRE series.
It also excites me to announce Target have once again teamed-up with another amazing fashion designer. First we welcomed Stella McCartney, then Dannii Minogue, then Missoni and now Collette Dinnigan (once again!) – wow! I can’t handle all this amazing-ness at once!
Collette Dinnigan launched this highly sought-after children’s range earlier in November, in conjunction with The Australian Ballet (another fave of mine). This range is a 12 piece collection, showcasing her signature romantic style and design – feature above on those gorgeous little ballerinas! With an array of sequins, tulle and blows, these pieces are the dream additional to any little girl’s wardrobe. These pieces are suited for little ones aged between 1 – 7 years. Target will also donate 10% of the retail price back to The Australian Ballet, helping the company bring the magic of dance to more children and families across Australia. These are now available to shop online – link below.
QUESTION ONE – Growing up and throughout your career, who has been your biggest role model and why? My mother; because she was kind, generous, caring, artistic, and insisted that I believed that anything was possible.
QUESTION TWO – Tell us what this recent collaboration means to you and has this been something you’ve wanted to revisit for some time? The ballet has such an emotional pull with many young children but for most it is a dream. It is important to make it accessible to all especially the younger generation and those who don’t live close to metropolitan centers so the collaboration with target gives all young aspiring ballerinas the opportunity to have a ballet inspired costume at an affordable price.
QUESTION THREE – Growing up my favourite ballet was Coppelia – I loved the theatrics, costumes and of course the love story. What is your favourite ballet and why? There are so many different productions of the classics but I would have to say the current production of La Bayadere is up there at the top of my list.
QUESTION FOUR – I read that you began your career working in the ABC costume department, has costume design always been a passion for you? Absolutely …the craft and detail particularly from period dramas has been a huge influence.
QUESTION FIVE – You’ve mentioned previously the birth of your beautiful daughter, Estella, inspired your Enfant Collection, has she in any way influenced this current Nutcracker collection? Estella was obsessed with the ballet to the point where she was sleeping in tutus when she was younger.
QUESTION SIX – I grew up idolizing Lisa Bolte and Fiona Tonkin, admiring their grace and incredible physiques and athleticism. What is it about dance and ballet in particular that you are drawn to regarding design? The discipline, the strength, the fragility the passion and the beauty…
QUESTION SEVEN – How has your transition been from headlining fashion weeks around the globe, to more local and specialized projects here in Australia been? My life is still very global. I guess preparing and working on my museum exhibition next year doesn’t make me feel like the brand has left the world stage.
